Martha Lou McCune, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 within minutes of prayer at Country Lawn Nursing Home in Navarre with family members at her bedside. She was born as a twin on June 14, 1927 in Little Rock, Arkansas to her late parents, Lloyd and Addie Williams. She was raised in Massillon and was a 1945 graduate of Massillon Washington High School. She married James A. McCune on January 4, 1953. Martha retired from A & D Food-A-Rama as a long-time cashier. She was known to frequently ring out groceries of customers while holding their babies. She even paid for customers groceries on good faith when they forgot their money or checkbook. Martha was an avid reader and extremely talented with her hands. She was a master at cooking, sewing and candy making. Nothing gave her more delight than feeding you or sharing her skills of cooking. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Massillon. Preceded in death by her husband, she was also the last survivor of eight children. Siblings were brothers; Charles "Hoyt", Larry, Edwin, Clyde and Glynn (Leota) Williams and her sisters Dorothy Fain and twin Mary Sue Rohrer. Survivors include children; Carole (Gregory) White, James (Carolyn) McCune, Kenneth (Laurie) McCune and Linda (David) Baker. She was a proud and loving grandmother of twelve grandchildren; Stacie, Julie, Karen, Mark, Andrew, Christopher, Brent, Trevor, Anna, Lindsay, Kaitlyn and Brendon. She was also thrilled by her ten great-grandchildren, with the eleventh on the way. A heartfelt expression of gratitude would like to be extended to the staff at Country Lawn Nursing Home for their wonderful care. Also a thank you to Crossroads Hospice and to her faithful neighbors, Earl and Chris Tenney who looked after her like she was family when she was still able to live in her home. Funeral services will take place on Saturday at 12 noon at the Paquelet and Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Alber officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
