Martha L. Thayer

Martha L. Thayer, age 74 of Massillon, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2012 at her residence. Martha was born on July 24, 1937 in Lock Seventeen, OH the daughter of the late William B. and Martha B. (Carson) Thayer. Martha lived in the area since 1957. She was an LPN and worked for many years at Massillon State Hospital and various other facilities in the area. In 1984 she joined the Peace Corp., serving in the Fiji Islands. Martha expanded her career as a Nursing Instructor and Director of Staff Development in California for four years. She was a member of Massillon Baptist Temple where she served on many committees and sang in the choir. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Billie Loraine Morehead, son, William D. Morehead, Jr., great-grandson, Andrew Whitten, and 8 siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory her children and their spouses; Cheryl L. (David) Grunwald of Perry Twp., Judy A. (Jim) Greek of Canal Fulton and Stephanie K. (Dan) Manwaring of Mesa, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 siblings; numerous nieces and nephews and her constant companion, her dog Spook. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Massillon Baptist Temple. Her nephew, Rev. Cecil Thayer will be Officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memorial Gardens in Dover, Ohio. Friends may call at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 P.M. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
