Martha (Betty) Mingo died August 7, 2015 in Portland. Born Martha Elizabeth Tucker to Ernest A. and Erma Smith Tucker on August 25, 1924, Martha grew up in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Martha married Paul Mingo in Dayton, Ohio on February 3, 1945, and shared her life with him until his death in 2006. In 1955, she and her family moved to Gray, where she dedicated herself to raising her children until they began school full-time. After working part-time at the local phone company, she joined Casco Bank and Trust Company. Her kind face and friendly demeanor were a welcome greeting to customers for years, and many made a visit to the bank a regular part of their routine to catch up with Martha. She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star as well as the Congregational Church of Gray. Martha was a caring, intelligent individual full of grace and dignity who strived to see the best in everyone. She loved each and every family member with every fiber of her being, especially her dear brother and friend, Jack. She treated all she met with kindness, warmth, and a dash of humor. Throughout her life, she loved discovering new things, from taking "selfies" with her grandchildren to singing along with Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. She will be sadly missed. Martha was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Paul. She is survived by her son Gary and his wife Maureen, of Gray; her son Jim, also of Gray; her daughter Ngaire, of Moravia, New York; her brother, Jack, of Canton, Ohio; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Martha will be buried with her parents in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gray Food Pantry at Town Hall or to the Congregational Church of Gray, Maine.
