Marion V. Perkins, 68, of Massillon, passed away on May 16, 2023.
He was born on July 29, 1954 to the late Arnett and Ernestine (Thomas) Perkins of Massillon. Marion graduated from Washington High School, received his BS from Bowling Green University. He was Director of Adult Services/ Placement Coordinator for Denver Board for the Developmentally Disabled, Inc in Denver Colorado, and Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities Canton Oh. He also worked as a Facility Manager for Summit County Board of DD retiring in 2019.
Marion was dedicated to his wife and loved to spend time with his family. Known for his sense of humor, kind and mild temperament, he loved to be the life of the party and tell jokes. He was member of NAACP and past vice president of the Massillon Ohio NAACP. He was also the Urban League president of Warren Oh and Denver Colorado, past member of the Elks Lodge #632 I.B.P.O.E. of W. in Massillon and current member of Cantell #1417 I.B.P.O.E. of W. in Alliance Oh. He was also the Elks Financial Secretary for Tri State; WV, PA and OH for over 20 years, Fraternal brother of Phi Beta Sigma. Marion ran for mayor and council president and council at large of in Massillon Ohio. Fond memories of his favorite neighbors Jason and Kelly.
Marion is survived by his loving Wife, Sheila (Fielding) Perkins; their daughters, Tamika (Mike) Payden, Artisha (Brian) West and Amber Perkins; grandsons, Nyree Drummond, Elijah Owens, Joshua Copeland and Micah Payden; siblings, Melvin Perkins, Mary Perkins, his twin Myron R. Perkins and Tommy Perkins; Nieces Shirley Robinson, Yvette Perkins, Tamara Sankofa and Sherry Robinson. Nephew Calvin Robinson. Great nieces Andrieka Robinson and A’mara Sankofa, Great Nephews Calvin Robinson Jr., Andrew Robinson, Azavier Robinson, Davion Bledsoe, A’darius Robinson, Gareon Conley and Nolan Williams. Great - Great Nieces A’nlanna Robinson and Ajada Robinson. Great - Great Nephews Tre Robinson, Braylen Conley and A’darius Robinson Jr. and Sylas Conley; sisters-in-law, Katrina Augustin, Shanda (Chuck Spencer) Appleberry and Shuronda Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, sister-in-law, Mattie Perkins and great niece Brittany Warner.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 10am-12pm at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home with a Home Going Celebration to follow at 12pm in the funeral home, Dr. Walter J. Arrington, Officiating. Burial will follow in Massillon Cemetery.
