Marilynn A. Williamson (Doty) passed away peacefully Saturday, January 25, 2014, with her family at her side. She was born March 1, 1937 in Lakeville, OH to Hugle and Lucille Doty. She graduated from Loudonville High School in 1954 as valedictorian. Marilynn graduated from Kent State University with a degree in deaf education. While at Kent, she was active in many organizations, including Delta Gamma sorority where she was president. Upon graduation, she taught hearing impaired children at Akron City Schools. Marilynn is survived by her husband, John, of 54 years and their children, Megan Evans (Scott) of Concord, OH and their two children, Katie and Zach; Amanda Williamson of Canton; and Ben Williamson (Loren) and their two children, Charlie and Amelia, of Fairfield, CT. In addition, she is survived by her brother, Louis Doty, and his wife, Janet, of Columbus, OH as well as her sister, Patricia Paul, and her husband, David, of Manning, SC. Marilynn's life was committed to serving others. She retired from teaching in 1964 to raise a family and became deeply involved in volunteer work. Marilynn became a member of the Junior League of Canton and held many positions including president. While serving, she started the first group home for teenage girls in the Greater Canton area. Additionally, Marilynn was a past president and member of the Women's Board of Aultman Hospital. She held many other positions including chairwoman of the Angel Auction. Marilynn was named Canton's Woman of the Year in 2004 due to her dedication to volunteerism. She became director of community relations and volunteer services in 1986. Marilynn worked there until 2001 when she retired to spend summers on Cape Cod. Of all her joys, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and watching them grow and mature. Calling hours will be held at Church of the Lakes United Methodist, 5944 Fulton Dr. Canton (330)499-8972 on Wednesday, January 29 from 6-8pm and memorial services at the church at 11am on Thursday, January 30.
