Marilyn M. (Evans) Koontz, age 93, passed away Nov. 15, 2016, at Affinity Medical Center, with her loving sons at her side. Marilyn was born in 1922. She was a lifelong resident of Massillon; and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1940. In 1942 Marilyn met her future husband Jim and they were married in 1943. Jim was in the Navy and stationed in Bainbridge, Md., where they made their home for 11 months. When Jim got his orders to be stationed in California, Marilyn came back to Massillon with her little dog. It was during this time that Marilyn was secretary to the Principal of Washington High School for one year and then secretary for a local attorney for several years. In 1950 God blessed them with a son, Mark, and in 1953 God blessed them with another son, Kevin. Marilyn was a stay at home mom. In 1969-1970 Marilyn started her career with the Massillon Board of Education as an Attendance Secretary at Longfellow Junior High School. She would be there for 13 years, retiring from in 1982. In subsequent years following her retirement in 1982 Marilyn did many craft shows. Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Johnson; and step-father, Oscar L. Johnson; and brother, James E. Johnson; and her loving husband, Jim. Surviving are her loving sons, Kevin her loving care giver, of the home, and Mark of Jackson Township. The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice and Affinity Medical Center for their compassionate and excellent care before Mom's passing. There will be no memorial service. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
