November 17, 1941 — December 28, 2021

Marilyn David Looby, 80, of North Canton, passed away on December 28, 2021, surrounded by her family in the home she loved, where she raised four children with her devoted husband of 59 years, Gerald T. Looby. In addition to her husband, her life is celebrated by her four children, Jerry (Allyson) Looby; David (Melissa) Looby; Joe (Trish) Looby; and Andrea (Matt) McCaffrey. A loving grandmother, she cherished her eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Audrey, Jax, Matthew, Olivia, Kathryn, and Abigail. She is also survived by her sister Janet (Paul) Palumbo of Canfield; niece Anne Marie (James) Snow; and nephews Paul (Valerie) Palumbo, Michael Palumbo, and Joseph (Angela) Palumbo. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Iona David, who lived in Massillon. Marilyn was born on November 17, 1941, in Massillon, Ohio. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Central Catholic High School, and graduated from Kent State University in 1963. A lifelong member of Delta Zeta sorority, she met her husband, Gerald, when he invited her to the University of Notre Dame Christmas Dance in 1960. They were married on November 10, 1962, at St. Joseph Church in Massillon, sharing their lives ever since. Marilyn was a first-grade teacher at Whipple Heights Elementary School, learning to snap her fingers and point in one smooth motion to get a student’s attention. Marilyn was gracious and kind to all who were fortunate to have met her. Her life centered in the home she loved in Stark County with occasional adventures to Myrtle Beach, Italy, Notre Dame football games, and visits to her children in various parts of the country. Her Christmas cookies remain legendary. An avid reader, she enjoyed growing beautiful roses and was a member of the Stark County Rose Society, St. Paul Catholic Church, and the St. Paul’s Women’s Guild. Marilyn’s greatest joy was her family and friends. She is dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
