Marianne Schriber

August 3, 1918 — February 8, 2007

Marianne Schriber, age 88, went home to the Lord Thursday February 8, 2007 at Meadow Wind Rehab Center after a short illness. She was born August 3, 1918 in Massillon to the late Henry & Emma (Singhaus) Schriber. Marianne was a 1936 graduate of Washington High School. After school she went to California to follow a career as a dancer. She performed in USO tours for our GI’s. During this time in her life she was in three movies, and had an appearance in ‘Two Girls and a Sailor’ with Van Johnson and June Allison. She returned to Massillon from Hollywood, after World War II and was employed as an Executive Secretary with Union Drawn, Canal Fulton Summer Theater and the Carousel Dinner Theater in Ravenna. She was a past president of the National Secretaries Association. She was an avid reader, enjoyed trips with the Massillon Senior Center and was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, sang in the Choir and was a member of the Altar Guild and the Martha Circle. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother and sister in law, William and Ruth Schriber of Navarre and her sister June Keller of Henderson, NV., and a grandson Ryan Witsaman of Green. She will be greatly missed by her daughters and sons in law: Rebecca and Glenn Witsaman of Green and Bobbie and Rudy Turkal of Massillon with whom she made her home. Grandchildren: Michael & Dena Rider, of North Canton, Kari & Joe Boyer of Canton South, Miss Kelly Turkal of Massillon and Jason Witsaman of Green. Five great grandchildren: Emily and Erik Rider and Brooke, Montana Maye and Joey Lynne Boyer. Brother in law Mr. Edward Keller of Henderson, NV and many special nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 12:30 PM Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Massillon, her pastor Rev. Leslie Peine will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Friends may call from 10:30 AM until the time of the service at the church on Monday. The family would appreciate contributions to either the First United Methodist Church or the family.
