Marianne Pettay

Marianne Pettay, 76 of Massillon, passed away Monday, August 28, 2017. Beloved mother, proud grandma, sister, aunt and friend will be forever missed. Marianne was born on September 29, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of the late Frederick and Ethel (Jenner) Bast. Marianne was a Washington High School graduate. She worked for the Hammersmith Insurance Company retiring after over 30 years of service. Marianne was past president of the Beta Sigma Phi City Council. She was an avid collector of many miscellaneous items including, but not limited to bears, lighthouses and cats meows. Marianne was very sentimental in saving the cards she was given over the years and equally enjoyed sending cards. She saved and displayed many family photos. Marianne was an active member and volunteered much of her time at Faith Community Fellowship. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dr. Jeffrey Jay. She is survived by her children, Tim Pettay, Jim Pettay and Beth A. Jay; grandsons, Andrew and Marcus; sister, Carol (Alvin) Wood; and brother, Fred (Jan) Bast. A Celebration of Marianne’s life will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Donations may be made to Faith Community Fellowship in Marianne’s name.
