Maria B. Hansbarger

Maria B. Hansbarger, aged 90 passed away on June 26, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Maria was born on April 3, 1921 in Kerkrade, Holland to the late Adolph Dorscheidt and Susanna (Dederichs) Dorscheidt. She married Henry F. Hansbarger on December 20, 1945 in Holland . She was considered the first war bride in Massillon arriving in 1946. Henry and Maria were together for 37 years until his passing on April 18, 1983. Maria was happiest sewing, cooking and baking. Known for her Orange Drop Cookies, and Red Velvet Cake. She took great pleasure in sharing her home baked goods with others. She was an active member of Christ United and Wesley United Methodist Churches. She was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She is survived by one son, Robbie C. Hansbarger(Alice), and one daughter Susanne M. Parks(Robert) both of Massillon. Her grandchildren, Erik S.(Jody) Hansbarger of Brewster, son of Susanne and Robert Parks, and Kari S.(Myung) Hansbarger of New York City, daughter of Robbie and Alice Hansbarger. Erik’s children, Kyle, Austin, and Joshua Hansbarger are Maria’s great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 12:00PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Pastor David Andrews officiating. Visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Maria’s memory to Wesley United Methodist Church, or the American Cancer Society.
