Mae Pearl Crable

May 26, 1937 — July 18, 2022

Mae Pearl Crable, 85, a lifelong resident of Massillon, went home to be with the Lord on July 18th, 2022. She was born at the former Massillon City Hospital on May 26, 1937, to the late Verdie and Lillie (Steele) Lowery. Mae was baptized and attended Friendship Baptist Church in Massillon until her health prevented her from going. She attended Massillon schools and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1956. Mae started working as a telephone operator for Ma-Bell Telephone Company out of New York City then worked at Ekco Housewares where she had over 20+ years of service before retiring. The most important aspect of Mae’s life was family. She was always wanting to get together with her family and loved attending family reunions. Most recently, the family celebrated their 76th reunion. Mae always enjoyed traveling to a different place for the reunions, with Michigan being her favorite location. The love she had for her family was shown through her son, Darryl who was the light of her life. Her proudest moment was when he joined the military and she supported him all twenty years he was gone, and he carried her with him that entire time as well. Mae leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved son Darryl (Cassandra) Bates; loving sisters Ann Lightfoot and her twin sister Minnie (Bill) Washington and Hilda Lowery; grandson Darryl C. Bates, Jr., granddaughter Jessica (Brenden) Hill; great-grandson Jaylen Medina; her nieces, Deborah Jordan, Lori Lightfoot, Stacy Lightfoot-Smith, Angela Lightfoot, Jene Crable-Morris and Ferne Griffin; nephews, Kenneth Trusel, Derrick Lightfoot, Brian Lightfoot, Lerry Crable and Jeffrey Washington; as well as a host of great nieces and nephews and other extended family. In addition to her parents, Mae was preceded in death by her husband, William Ronald Crable (2-18-1980), and her sister, Lucy Love (8-13-2003). A Homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, July 22nd at 11 a.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon with Pastor LeCounte P. Nedab II officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
