Lynell E. Chenault

June 17, 1940 — November 22, 2024

Canton

Lynell E. Chenault, affectionately known as Jean, was born on June 17, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She gracefully walked this earth until November 22, 2024, when she departed in North Canton, Ohio, leaving behind a profound legacy etched in the hearts of those who loved her.

Jean dedicated her life to public service, playing a vital role in the Canton Hometown Plan and the SCCAA, a nonprofit organization founded by the federal government in 1981 with the noble goal of combating poverty. Her commitment extended beyond her career; she was a beacon of hope and support for her family, embodying the spirit of selflessness and care.

Her greatest joy lay in her family. Jean was a devoted mother to her children, Wanda, Hershel and Justine, and a cherished grandmother to Justin, Christian, Cherish, and Hershel (Ian). She basked in the delight of being a great-grandmother to Silas, and it was in these relationships that her love flourished. It was her unwavering presence during times of need that spoke volumes of her character; whenever support was required, Jean was on a plane, ready to lend a hand and embrace her loved ones.

Jean's passion for children extended to her involvement in the children’s ministry at her church, where she influenced many young lives with her nurturing spirit. Known for her delicious pound cakes, which brought joy to every gathering, she not only fulfilled stomachs but also warmed hearts with each lovingly baked treat.

A gifted seamstress, Jean found joy in creating and blessing others with her handiwork. She played the piano with an enthusiasm that resonated through her household, often filling the air with melodies that could soften even the heaviest of hearts. Her playful spirit and loving nature made her the friend everyone turned to—a caring soul, always ready to sacrifice her own convenience for others.

Jean is deeply missed by her family, including her siblings: Shirley Culbert (Earl), Johnny George (Edie), Beverly Crosby (Al, deceased), Sandra Johnson (Earl), Alfred Graham, and many treasured nieces and nephews who carry fond memories of her. She will be reunited in spirit with her beloved husband of 60 years, Donald Chenault, her daughter Wanda Chenault, her granddaughter Qiana Williams, and her parents, John and Jesse George, along with her sibling Marcella Jones.

As we gather to honor Jean’s life, we are reminded of the gentle light she brought into the world. A visitation will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM, at Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Ohio. She will be laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio, on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 12:45 PM.

Jean’s spirit will forever be a part of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived. Her love, devotion, and beautifully woven memories will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her.
