Loxlie Doc Weiford, 88, of Massillon, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on Friday, November 03, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 8, 1928 in Massillon to the late John and Letha (Snodgrass) Weiford. Doc proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a WWII Veteran. He was also a graduate of Washington High School and attended The Ohio State University for two years. He married the love of his life, Margie McClaskey on October 22, 1949. They just celebrated 68 wonderful years together. Doc was very well known in his community as being a postal carrier, which he did for 33 years and as being the city ice tester for the reservoir for 30 years. He also was a lifelong member of Massillon Baptist Temple and was extremely dedicated to the church. Doc was a Sunday school teacher there for 45 years, an usher and deacon and was also named Deacon Emeritus. The church was very important to him and he led many people to the Lord. In his spare time, he enjoyed painting and roofing work with his sons and son-in-laws. Doc never knew a stranger and was commonly known for always having candy on him during his postal routes and for the kids at Sunday school. His greatest accomplishment in life, however, was being a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. He will be missed by all those that knew him. Doc is survived by his wife, Margie; children Vicki (Jimmy) Tondola, Randy (Susan) Weiford, Cindie (Kester) Cantwell, Gary (Terra) Weiford, Tim Weiford, Kathy (Dan) Transue, and Shelley (Harold) Leone; one brother Dallas (Sandy) Weiford; 22 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his great-great grandson Brennan Doc; 4 sisters and 6 brothers. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Paquelet and Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at Massillon Baptist Temple at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Cecil Thayer will be officiating. Burial will follow with military rites at Massillon City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to Massillon Baptist Temple, 1219 Overlook Ave. SW, Massillon, Ohio 44647.
