Louise McConaughead age 94 of Canton, passed away Sunday morning. Born in Massillon, Ohio to the late Ella Reea Hence and Louis Murray. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Willa Mae Murray, Mamie Barkley and brother Louis Murray, Jr., as well as three of her children, Rene Young, Edward McConaughead and Brenda McConaughead.
Louise lived most of her life in the Massillon-Canton area. She spent part of her childhood in Alabama. She graduated from Massillon Washington High School. Louise’s first job was ironing laundry for $5 a week; eventually, she moved to Cleveland and worked as a secretary at Eaton Corp.
She married Edward McConaughead and had 6 children. She retired from the Timken Company where she put in 16 years. After retirement, she worked as a home health aide to numerous individuals and facilities in the Massillon-Canton area.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Massillon, Ohio. She enjoyed reading her Bible, sports, and family. She also loved spending time with lifelong friends who have already passed before her.
Louise is survived by her children Kenny McConaughead, Jerome (Lola) McConaughead, Merle (Tammy) McConaughead; her grandchildren Jackie, Tierney, Tai, Fellicia, Tara, Toccara, Edward (Peggy), John, Mike, Alvita (Mudrik) and Telia; great-grandchildren, Kyce, Damonte (Macie), Kyla, Edward, Jaunte, Tyreese, Desiree, Daijonna, Chartiara, Heaven, Michael, Mikayla and Malachi; 8 great-great grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 20th from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
A graveside service will follow at 1:30pm at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
