Lois O. Flanagan

Lois Flanagan peacefully passed away on Friday, July 4 at the age of 97 at Meadow Wind Health Care Center. Lois was born in Dalton, OH in 1911 to Mary and Elmer Ober. She graduated from Dalton High School and the College of Wooster. Lois taught elementary and high school, but spent most of her life as a loving homemaker. She found great delight in gardening, baking, cooking and her special collection of angels. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of Massillon since 1941, a member of Church Women United, a founding member of Faith in Action and a support member of Al-Anon. In 1998, she was honored as an “Unsung Hero” for all her charity efforts and making a difference in the community. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Larry Flanagan, in 1983. Surviving are her 3 children; David (Michelle) Flanagan of Westlake, Patricia (Jim) Porter of Dalton and Marilyn (Butch) Swad of Massillon. She had 8 grandchildren; James (Pam) Porter, Brian (Cathy) Flanagan, Stacy Strine, Trisha (Craig) Henry, Patrick (Deborah) Kelly, Caroline (Bill) Kessler, Nora Kelly, Joshua (Carrie) Porter and 6 great grandchildren; Derrick, Shelby, Jacob, Brooke, James and Lianna; sister, Ruth Gibson of Dover; sister-in-law, Doris Hintz. Funeral services celebrating Lois’ life will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Central Presbyterian Church in Massillon with Rev. Larry Lalama officiating. Calling hours will be Monday from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Arnold – Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will take place following the services at Brookfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Central Presbyterian Church of Al-Anon.
