Lewis J. Wartley, Jr.

August 25, 1934 — December 26, 2008

On August 25, 1934 in Evergreen Alabama, a boy child was born to Louis and Fannie Mae Wartley. They named him Lewis Johathan Wartley Jr. who was the fourth child and the first son of ten children. Lewis was baptized at Westside Baptist Church at an early age, he attended Conecuh County Training School. During his childhood years “Bud” (as he was known by his family) demonstrated that he could fix things. Thus he became a good mechanic and loved restoring antique cars and was also a good handyman. This would lead him to a career of 41 years at Republic Steel, working as a welder, then a journeyman before retirement. Lewis was also a great cook and would love to have large birthday parties where he could cook all the good southern foods for his family and friends. He was known as “Poppa Shaun” to his friends in Massillon, and he and his long time friend, L.C. Wilson would go fishing and listen to blues, laugh and have a jolly good time. Lewis always stated that “I am a man amongst men.” He had a low keyed, wonderful personality, when he accepted you as a friend and you would have a friend for life. He was a great provider to his children and was very well known and liked in the community. Lewis knew the Lord and had a personal relationship with God. In November of 1993 he fell in love with Regina and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 22, 1995. The both of them loved doing things together such as eating out, going to the movies and also day trips to visit friends and family. To this union Amber Marie was born. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Wartley; daughter, Phyllis Autrey; sisters, Earnestine Hawkins and Benice Roach; brother, Tommy Lee Wartley. Lewis passed away following a long illness on December 26, 2008. He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Regina; his children, Darrell Wartley, Glenda Wartley, Lewis Wartley III, Donald Wartley, David Wartley, Amber Wartley, Kourie Wartley and Darryl Truner; grandchildren, Anthony Wartley, Dominiqu Wartley, Zachariaus Wartley, Talyor Wartley, Ashanti Wartley, Terrel Wartley, Octavia Wartley, Anthony Wartley Fritz, LaShea Sibley, LaReechisa Sibley, Nikki Card, Sameika Carpenter, Dwayne Pitts, Kashoys Truner, Shawanda Townsend, T.J.
