Leonard E. “Gene” Border, 77, of Massillon passed away Wednesday February 10, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born December 15, 1932 in Beatrice, West Virginia the son of the late Everett and Ada (Moore) Border. Gene was a graduate of Harrisville High School in West Virginia. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Panama. Gene was employed as an air conditioning technician for East Ohio Gas Co. and retired in 1990 after 35 years service. He was a life member of the Army-Navy Garrison Post # 207, and enjoyed gardening. Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years Doris (Ickes) whom he married March 12, 1956. Also surviving are children Donna (Jeff Limbach) Border of Massillon, Bill (Marsha) Border of Massillon, Leonard (Betsy) Border Jr. of Massillon, Tom (Debbie) Border of Carrollton, OH, and Gary Border of Massillon; ten grandchildren; eleven great- grandchildren; sister Ruth (Cliff) Lowe of Massillon. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Margaret Border, and Loretta Sekulich, brother Donald Border, and great- granddaughter Alex Friend. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 P.M. at Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home 1100 Wales Rd NE. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home with visitation from noon until the time of service. Burial will follow in Brookfield Cemetery.
