Leland “Garon” Carpenter, 15, of Jackson Township (Canton, Ohio) was called home to heaven on Wednesday January 24th, 2018 at Akron Children’s Hospital. Garon was born in Greenville, South Carolina. At the age of 4, his Buckeye parents moved him back home to Ohio. Garon was a Jackson kid through and through. He had been a member of the Order of the Arrow of the Boy Scouts of America. He attended Jackson High School and was a proud member of the Jackson Purple Army Marching Band which he loved. He was a talented musician playing the saxophone in marching band and clarinet in symphony band. Garon is survived by his father David Carpenter, his mother Medea Banks-Carpenter, his best friend and sister Alaina Carpenter, grandparents Dahmert “Jim” and Cheryl Banks all of Jackson and grandmother Dixie Carpenter of Albany, Ohio. He was also loved by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Garon was a wonderful son, brother and friend. He was smart, kind and always ready to make you laugh or teach you something new, especially about computers, his favorite thing. He enjoyed building and rebuilding his own computer and was always learning new things. He loved being in the Purple Army and spending time with his sister and his friends most of whom he had been friends with since the first grade. They are the most wonderful group of kids a parent could hope to have in their son’s life. Garon had the best sense of humor and he was all about the meme. We will miss his laughter, his smile and his beautiful heart. Garon had so many plans for the future - no one could see this coming and so many hearts are broken. Hug your children and talk to them about this, even if you think you don’t need to. We had no warning. Teenage years are hard but they should just be speedbumps on the road of life and not the end. We will never know why. To know Garon was to love him, he will be greatly missed to all of those blessed enough to have been touched by his brief life. One day in Heaven, we will all be so happy to see him again. Calling hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon. The service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 3rd at 11 a.m. and Garon will be laid to rest at St. Jacobs Cemetery at 1460 State Street N.E. in North Canton following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Garon’s name to the Jackson Band Boosters fund at Jackson High School 7600 Fulton Drive N.W. in Massillon.
