Larry L. Latham, age 83 of Massillon, died on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Affinity Medical Center. He was born on February 19, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and was the son of the late George and Virginia (Nyrich) Latham. Larry was a veteran of World War II and served on the U.S.S. Yorktown with the U.S. Navy. He was a plane director on the flight deck. While in the Navy, Larry earned seven ribbons and stars, plus two Bronze Stars, the Liberation Ribbon with Star and the Presidential Ribbon with Star. He served in the South Pacific. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, the Akron Water Ski Club, loved to do wood cutting, camping, bowling, Native American lore and traveling. He was a Past President of the Massillon Lions Club. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death in 2003 by his wife of 59 years, Patricia A. Latham, his brother Jack and his sister Lenore. In 2009 his great granddaughter, Sydney McInnes also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Claudia and Bob Baker of Jackson Township and Ann and Martin Rice of Massillon, 5 grandchildren, including his namesake Larry Latham Baker, numerous great and great great grandchildren and his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Glenn Zorger of Perry Township. A service to celebrate his life will take place on Thursday at 1:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon with Rev. Barry Stirbens officiating. Burial will follow at Massillon Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M. and on Thursday one hour before the service. The family would like to thank the I.C.U. Unit and 2nd floor crew at Affinity Medical Center and the nurses who gave him good care and attention at the Laurels.
