Lawrence “Larry” and Helen Eckstein both age 73 of Massillon passed away on October 23, 2021 and October 28, 2021 respectively. Larry was born on December 18, 1947 in Massillon to the late Donald and Helen Eckstein. He was a 1965 graduate of Central Catholic High School. Helen was born on June 27, 1948 in Tarlac, Philippines to the late Illuminado and Flora Marcos. Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in the Phillipines, where he met the love of his life Helen and they were married on March 29, 1970 and they shared 51 years together. Larry worked for and retired from Fleming Foods after 24 years of service. Helen worked for Taco Bell for 25 years until her retirement. Wherever you saw Larry you saw Helen. They enjoyed dancing, watching movies together, but their greatest passion was their family. Larry was known for his honesty, integrity and his moral strength. Larry was a World War II afficionado reading numerous books and collecting memorabilia and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, watching NASCAR, the Montreal Canadiens and the Indianapolis Colts. Helen was honest, kind and giving. Helen enjoyed fishing and sewing. They were both dedicated to their Catholic faith. They will both be remembered as a devoted and loving husband and wife, parents, grandparents and friends. They leave to cherish their memories, their children Guinevere, Steven (Nicole), Larry (Tonya), Scott (Shawna) and James (Amber); their grandchildren Breanna (Travis) , Alexandra (Terry), Madison (Jordan), Dylan, Irelyne, and Randi. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Colette Eckstein and Elaine (Ron) McElhaney; his brothers Donald (Bill) Eckstein Jr. and Richard (Scott) Eckstein and Helen is survived her sisters Matricia and Adelia; her brother Juniorito and they are both survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Sue Eckstein and Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Conchita Walker. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, November 03, 2021 at 10a.m. at St. Barbara Catholic Church in Massillon. Reverend Matthew Mankowski will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon on Tuesday, November 02, 2021 from 5-8p.m. and on Wednesday, November 03, 2021 from 9:00 – 9:30a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Massillon.
