Katie Mae Bridgest, 93, of Canton, passed away, following a brief illness on May 6, 2024 at Green Meadows Nursing Center.
She was born on June 23, 1930 to the late William and Mary (Wilkens) Bennett in Lyons, GA. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Rev. JT Bridgest on May 8, 1948, from that union there were 3 children.
Katie graduated from J.D. Dickerson High School in Vadalia GA. She retired from Area Agency on Aging. A devout member of Shiloh Baptist Church she was active in many church ministries. Every summer she had the "Good News" Club Bible School in the basement of her home. Born with a natural desire to help others, she was dedicated to her family and a blessing to others. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
Katie is survived by her children John (Dorthea) Bridgest and Emmelia (Doyle) Lewis; grandchildren Kerry, Lynise (Ira), Scott, Kimberly (Joseph) Chandra, Chan (Tracey), Jasmine, Mark, Tiffany, Pamela, Blaine, Tommy, and Dominic; 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death her by daughter, Treasa Jones; grandchild, Valerie; siblings Juanita Muse, Joseph Bennett, William "Red" Bennett, Eugene "Gene" Bennett, and Robert Bennett.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 2:30pm-3:30pm at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Massillon with a Home Going Celebration at 3:30pm in the church with Rev. Anthony Robinson, officiating.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10am in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church.
