Kathryn ‘Katie’ Russ

Kathryn ‘Katie’ Russ, age 99 of Massillon passed away Tuesday December 22, 2010 at her residence after a 6 month illness. Katie was born October 24, 1911 in Massillon to the late Edward & Anna Lustig. She was graduated from both Mt. Marie Academy and the Julliard School of Music in New York City. Katie was employed for 25 years by the Timken Company and retired in 1969. A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a member of Christian-Mothers Alter Rosary Society and helped with the soup kitchen. She was a lively mind who loved to banter with everyone. Her deep appreciation of music allowed her to be the organist and choir director at two Canton churches. Favorite holiday times were spent playing cards and other board games. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Louis L. Russ (1969) and a brother Carl ‘Butch’ Lustig. Katie is survived by five nieces and nephews: David (Lois) Lustig of Massillon, Margaret (Alan) Hainsworth of Shreve, Beth (Raymond) Horn of Loudonville, James E. (Kathy) Lustig CD of Wright, MO and Arthur (Karen) Lustig of Dalton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Thursday December 30, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, her pastor Fr. Raymond Paul will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home.
