Kathryn B. Dewalt age 91 of Massillon passed away June 6, 2006 at the Canton Regency. She was born July 16, 1914 in East Liverpool, OH to the late William & Nellie (Miller) Barker. Kaye was raised in East Liverpool and moved to Massillon when she married her late husband Donald E. in 1940. After teaching in East Liverpool for five years she began a 27 year career of teaching 1st Grade at Franklin Elementary in Massillon. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Massillon where she belonged to the Amicitita Sunday School Class. She had been a member of the Massillon Lady Lions, the evening section of the Massillon Women's Club, the Massillon Retired Teachers Asso. and the Massillon Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son in law Charles Richard Hartz; step-sisters: Ellen Sade McIlvaine and Ruth McKee, step-brothers Roy Ewing and Jack Ewing; and a sister in law Katherine Barker She is survived by two daughters; Judith K. Hartz and Shirley D. (Dave) Smith; four granddaughters, Barbara Hartz, Brenda Hartz, Debbie (Andy) Ziccardi, Tammy (Paul) Zidek; three great grandchildren, Franklin & Madeline Ziccardi and Olivia Zidek; brother, William F. Barker of Charlotte, NC and nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Kaye's life will be Friday at a time to be announced at the First United Methodist Church in Massillon. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Friends may call 6-8 PM Thursday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials in Kaye's memory can be made to the Washington High School Scholarship Fund (207 Oak St. S. E., Massillon) or First United Methodist Church.
