Kathryn Aldawna Hammel, 57, of New Franklin, went home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 14, 2022, following a short battle with Covid. Kathryn was born on May 17, 1964, in Canton, Ohio the daughter of Albert and Crystal (Johnson) Thomas. She was a 1982 graduate of Washington High School. Kathryn received a bachelor’s degree in Electronics’ from MIT. Kathryn was a nature lover. She loved playing softball and was on numerous swim teams and pool leagues. Kathryn was also devoted to several prayer chains and donating graciously to several churches. When you asked her how she was doing no matter what day she always said, “ Oh well, you know just fighting the good fight and enjoying every minute of it.” Her fight is now over, and she can now rest in peace with her God and those who have gone before her. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Thomas; daughter, Aldawna Hammel; and brothers, Franklin, Lonnie, and Richard Thomas. She is survived by her companion of 24 years, Donald Raynard; mother, Crystal Thomas; her daughters, Kathryn G. (Eric) Diaz-Valero and Taylor (Jack) Swinderman; brother, Glen (Connie) Thomas; grandchildren, Lamarr, Brynleigh, Mia, Jordyn, Kindall, and Morgan; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens later.
