Kathleen E. Hickey Green, 75, of Massillon, passed away at her home on March 10, 2024. A lifelong resident of Massillon, she was born on March 21, 1948, to the late Robert and Martha (Omicinski) Hickey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carole Spicer. Kathy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Kelli (Nick Hill) Green and her son, Matthew (Sharon) Green; beloved granddaughters Makenna Greenhill, Isabel Green, Meghan Greenhill, and Madeleine Green; and her sisters Paula Hickey and Jeanne Hickey.
Growing up, Kathy attended grade school at St. Mary’s and was a lifelong member of the church. She was a 1966 graduate of Central Catholic High School, as well as a graduate of the former Notre Dame College for Women where she received her bachelor’s degree in English Education. She continued her academics at Kent State University and graduated with her master’s degree in Library Science.
Kathy was a pillar of the community where she was a teacher for Massillon City Schools for 30+ years. The Massillon Public Library meant the most to Kathy where she served as president, advocating for freedom of speech, education, and libraries. She received many awards for these matters, especially for the preservation of public libraries and was a member of the Friends of the Library. She was also a very active member of the SCRTA and Distinguished Citizens board, coordinating and planning events for both.
Furthermore, Kathy was a dedicated member of the Massillon Woman’s Club, served as former president, and ran the giftshop for many years where she was the number one customer.
She continued her community support by being a season ticket holder and attending every Massillon Tigers game where many knew her as the “Shout Lady”.
Kathy could also be described as a world traveler, visiting places such as Spain, Rome, Prague, Ireland, Austria, and France to name a few.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 19th from 5-7 p.m. at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Massillon. Following mass, she will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, next to her parents.
