Katherine Steiert

Katherine Steiert, age 91 passed away Monday June 24, 2013. Katherine was born November 23, 1921 in Massillon to the late George & Lydia (Jung) Pinis and was a 1940 graduate of Washington High School. She continued her education at Miami University and received her Bachelors, Masters and PhD in Education at Kent State University. Her career in education began with the Massillon Schools and continued throughout her life. The last 40 years were spent with George Mason University, the University of Virginia and several others, concluding her career as supervisor for the Education System of Fairfax County, VA. She was a life member of Delta Gamma Sorority and the P.E.O. of Virginia and Ohio. She delighted in visiting Williamsburg, VA and fine dining. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers; George Pinis Jr. and Fritz Pinis. She is survived by her son and daughter in law: Steve & Barbara Steiert of Perry Twp; two grandchildren; Deanna Ruthe of North Canton and Michael Steiert of Jacksonville, FL. She has three great grandchildren: Jake, Josh & Pete Ruthe. There are several nieces and nephews: Georgia Pinis, Dave Dawson and Katherine Anne Holderbaum; and a long time and loyal friend, Joyce Scordy of VA. A Memorial gather will be from 1 PM to 2 PM Monday at the Paquelet Funeral Home. At 2PM there will be a time of sharing and memories.
