K. Mike Nunley, age 76, of Canton, Ohio (Jackson Township) passed away at Chapel Hill UCH Community on, March 10, 2024 after a quick battle with dementia.
Mike was born on November 13, 1947 in Canton, Ohio to the late Gertrude and Ernest (Blackburn) Nunley. He was the only son of 5 children, and lived in Canton his whole life.
Survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynne (Ronaldson) Nunley, his only daughter Tricia (Brad) Stanton, and his 2 grandchildren Brielle (13) and Luke (10). He is also survived by his two younger sisters Carole (Bob) Thomas of North Canton and Sue Clark of Canton. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Bill Douglas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen (Bill) Clark and Louise Douglas.
He will be remembered as a generous, jovial, and honest man. He loved his family, his work and his community. Mike loved his career as an investment advisor, most recently working for himself at the Nunley Investment Group of 20 some years. Mike was a part of the Junior Achievement Program at Lake Schools for several years where he demonstrated his knowledge of investments and economics. As a member of the Perry Rotary for 34 years, he would volunteer at events, he would help create the Perry Preview Basketball Event, serve as president, and served specifically on the rotary exchange programs committee and hosted several businessmen and students from other countries (including Valerie Gavray of Belgium who spent an entire year with his family), and is now an Honorary Member. Also, as host family for the Massillon Ulster Project, Mike and his family hosted Emma McLaughlin of Belfast, Northern Ireland who spent much time with the family. Mike also was part of the 11th class of Leadership of Stark County and would continue to donate and volunteer at their booth for the Hall Of Fame Ribs Burn-Off. He funded a young girl internationally for nearly 20 years through the Child Fund. Mike was also an animal lover, and an advocate for the local Second Chance organization.
In his earlier years, he served his church, St. Mary’s Church. Mike made donuts for parishioners every Sunday for many years, operated the 2-church concession stands at the Yankee Peddler for several years as well, and contributed many other ways.
Mike was a lover of country music, seeing all the stars within 3 rows of the stage. He was a season ticket holder for the Cleveland Indians/ Guardians, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He loved his sports, music, animals as well as weekend trips with couples, attending local charitable events, and having dinner with his wife Lynne and friends of theirs.
The family would like to thank the Gables (Canton and Green) for their great help and commitment to doing all they could. They would also like to thank UCH Chapel Hill Community for their overwhelming compassion taking care of Mike in his final weeks. Also, the family would like to thank the team at Remembrance Hospice for their continued support and caring specialists over the past months. A special thank you to Maureen Richard, whom served as his best friend and advocate for the last year of his life. He will be missed by all.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 6 pm -8 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by The Rev. Fr. John Sheridan on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to Second Chance Animal Shelter of Stark County.
