Ms. Judith E. Barnes – Lancaster, J.D., 81, passed away on December 26, 2021, following an extended illness. She was born in Canton, on February 13, 1940 to Owen J. and Lillian (Nichols) Barnes. Judith received her B.S. in Biology from Kent State University and her J.D. from Akron University School of Law. Prior to practicing law, Judith headed the laboratory at Doctor’s Hospital and co-founded the Mid-American Tissue Bank. She began her law practice as Judith E. Barnes-Lancaster, Attorney at Law, in Canton. She was a member of St. Paul’s AME Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Links Inc., Prestwick Country Club, Canton Museum of Art (CMA) Board, CMA Foundation, Walsh University Board, NEOMED Board, Trustee and Emeritus Member of NEOMED Foundation, Former Chair of Mercy Medical Hospital, Chair of Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, Sisters of Charity Board, Stark State Foundation, Stark County Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, American Bar Association, Sports Lawyers Association, North East Federal District Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Judith is survived by her children, Richard A. (Solestine) Lancaster, McKinley L. Lancaster, Sr., and Lillian M. Lancaster; grandchildren, Cory Lancaster, Joshua Lancaster, McKinley Lancaster, Jr., Briana (Xavier) Green, Miles Gibson, and Mariah Gibson; her sisters, Lora Harrington-Pride and Jacqueline L. Holmes. She is survived by and loved by a host of relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, brother Ronald Barnes and sister Michael Tolson. She is also preceded in death by her former husband, Leonard T. Lancaster. The family will receive friends at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Thursday, January 6, 2022, from 6pm -8pm with Sorority services held at 7pm. A Celebration of Life for Judith will be held in the funeral home on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 2pm, Elder Kenneth L. Hill officiating.
