Judith A. “Judy” McGovern, age 72 of Massillon, died on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Massillon on September 1, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Juanita (Kraft) Lenhart. In 1956, Judy graduated from Washington High School. She enjoyed being with her family, she especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and traveling with her husband and close friends. She was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. She retired from the Massillon City School system after 26 years of service as a cook. Along with her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her sister, Marilyn Getz. She is survived by her husband, Robert F. McGovern, whom she married on February 27, 1960, her children, Dr. Gregory (Nalin) McGovern, M.D. of Las Vegas, NV, Kellie (Chet) Slabaugh of Dalton, OH, Karla (Cary) Marsh of Massillon and Tech Sgt. Kevin (Sgt. Michele) McGovern of Massillon, currently stationed with the Air Force in Texas. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Seth, Logan, Jared and Trent Marsh, Allen and Alex Slabaugh and Miranda McGovern and her brother Thomas (Laura) Lenhart of Massillon. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Cebula officiating. Burial will follow at Brookfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home from 6-9 P.M. Because of Judy’s love of animals, the family suggests memorials be made in the name of Judith A.
