Judge Stephens age 77, a Massillon businessman, passed away Thursday November 30, 2006 at his residence following a 2 year illness. He was born July 28, 1929 in Bowdon, GA to the late Roxie & Sallie (Henson) Stephens. In 1949 he moved to Massillon and immediately began working at Republic Steel for 25 years. He soon opened Stephens Dry Cleaners and then became a partner in Champion Dry Cleaners in the early 50s. In 1973 he became the sole owner of Champion and continued until his sons joined the business in 1980. His memberships include Shiloh Baptist Church and the Elks Lodge #632. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 9 sisters and brothers: Bertha Woods, Mamie LaRue, Lessie Kelley, Alline Cato, Katie Bradley, Joe, Melvin, Charlie & Lee Stephens He leaves to cherish his memory three children: Daryl (Mary) Stephens of Akron, OH, Yvonne (John) Pippins of Arlington, TX & Eric Stephens of Massillon. A granddaughter Taylor Stephens; a great nephew Corey Mitchell, and a niece, Florence Mitchell who at one time lived with them. Sisters: Gertha Fouse and Eddie Williams both of Massillon. A companion of 19 years, Earnestine Brewer of the residence. And her children: Dante Brewer & Tamika Brewer. Special grandkids: Renee, Asia, JaeSean & JayVon. And a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. His Homegoing Celebration will be 11 A.M. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Massillon, his pastor Rev. Anthony Robinson Sr. will officiate. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 6-8 PM at the church and from 10 AM until the service.
