Joseph W. Rutkowski, Sr., age 80 of Massillon, died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Affinity Medical Center. His death followed a lengthy illness. He was born on September 19, 1928 in Canton, Ohio and was the son of the late Gust and Anna (Matecki) Rutkowski. He was a lifelong area resident. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Superior Brand Meats following 41 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Council #554. He enjoyed bowling, golf, racquetball and playing cards with family and friends. He and his wife enjoyed dancing in their younger years. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane M. Rutkowski in 2006 who was waiting for him up in heaven with a deck of cards. He is survived by his wife, Mary A. (Fabianich) Rutkowski, whom he married on August 27, 1955, his daughter, Barbara A, Indorf of Canton, his son and daughter in law, Joseph W. and Annette C. Rutkowski, Jr. of Massillon, his grandchildren, Alexandra, Kristina, Michael and Jillian Rutkowski and his sister, Helen Duplain of Canton. Services will be held on Saturday, December 27th at 2:00 P.M. at the Paquelet Funeral Home with Fr. Raymond L. Paul officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. Cremation will follow and his cremated remains will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
