Joseph L. Armstead, 69, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 14, 2015. He was born in Fredericksburg, VA on December 5, 1945. Joseph was a Deputy Sheriff and retired from the Summit County Sheriff's Office. He was a dedicated family man and avid fisherman. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothea "Dottie" (Williams) Armstead. There are four children, Deborah Williams and Kelly Armstead, both of Massillon; Patrick (Chariti) Armstead of Akron and Brian (Kris) Armstead of Akron; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Danny Armstead of North Carolina and David Armstead of Massillon. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Byrd and Grace Franklin; son, Joseph Armstead; brother Lawrence Franklin; and sister, Shirley Carr. Friends and family may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 10:00AM – 12:00PM, where a Home Going Celebration will be held at 12:00PM. Rev. Robert Williams will be officiating. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery.
