Joseph Henry Snively Joe Snively, 74, passed away June 6, 2018, surrounded by his family. A star of the 1961 championship Massillon Tiger football team, Joe graduated from the University of Cincinnati and pursued a successful sales and marketing career. He was able to retire early and savor life on Sanibel Island, Florida, before returning to Massillon. Joe loved history, read voraciously, and frequented libraries and used bookstores. He talked passionately about history he found especially colorful and he shared his favorite books generously. He found the best in his friends, nurtured their interests, and supported them loyally. Joe liked gardening, cooking, sports, and lighthearted travel. He loved good jokes and stories, deep conversations, and time with family and friends. He supported the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, volunteered at the Massillon Museum, was a founding member of One Tiger, Inc., and enjoyed the Massillon Public Library. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. L.J. and Jane Snively, and his son Joe Snively. He is survived by his life partner Linda Mospens DeVore; daughter Jenny (Adam) Skjonsby; brothers Jim (Donna) Snively and Tim Snively (Molly Carlile); nephews Dan (Jody) Snively and Jim (Carlyn) Snively; grandchildren Michael Snively, Anthony Snively, and Jane Skjonsby; Linda’s children Krista (Bill) Hunter, Matthew Brent DeVore, and Tracey Green; and Linda’s grandchildren Eamonn Hunter, Zachery DeVore, Noah DeVore, Patrick (Katherine) Fogerty, Ryan Fogarty, and and Cara Green. Joe is also survived by his beloved stepmother Happy Haas Snively; her children—Steve (Barbara) Haas, Jim (Karen) Haas, Susie (Peter) Wilson, and John (Margy) Haas; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at Paquelet Funeral Home on July 28 at 3:00 PM with calling hours one hour before. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon or the Massillon Museum (for the new Paul Brown Museum).
