Joseph David Newsome

November 9, 1963 — April 5, 2015

Joseph David Newsome, Jr., died unexpectedly at his North Lawrence home on April 5, 2015. Dave, as his family and friends knew him, was born Nov. 9, 1963 in the Massillon City Hospital. He would have soon celebrated 28 years of marriage to the love of his life, Helen (Hoagland) Newsome. The couple have one son, James Dean Newsome, a senior at Tuslaw High School – the same school Dave graduated from. Dave is also survived by his parents (Linda and Joe, Sr.), a younger brother (Robert Earl Newsome), and numerous family members. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Renee, and his maternal grandparents (Alice Heiserer Hose and Arthur Ricosky) and his paternal grandparents, (Evelena and General Earl Newsome) all of Massillon. Dave owned Ozzie's Auto Sales on Erie Street, exhibited a grand sense of humor, and was widely known as an area sports enthusiast. He was a proud sponsor and proponent of the Tuslaw Mustang Football Team, a Detroit Red Wings fanatic, and a diehard Pittsburg Steelers fan. Private Services have been held and cremation has occurred. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers you actively support your school's athletic teams, take a child to a professional sporting event, or sponsor a student at an athletic camp.
