John W. Cernea, 91 of Jackson Township, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. John was born on May 15, 1926 in Massillon the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Logan) Cernea. John was a lifelong resident of the area and a 1944 graduate of Washington High School where he was a member of the Massillon marching band. He was a United States Army veteran serving his country during WWII in the 8th Cavalry Division - Pacific Theater. John retired from Republic Steel after 36 years of service. He was an officer and participating member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and carpentry and was known as the neighborhood handyman. John was a member of First Church of the Resurrection in Canton. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Margaret “Peggy” Ehrenberg and his brother-in-law James Ehrenberg. He is survived by his friends, Andy (Alice) Paul, Grace Wetzel, Donna Messer and Jane Clevenger. He will be greatly missed by his neighbors and many other friends. A service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Massillon Cemetery.
