John W. Tapp, of Massillon, 95, passed away on July 28, 2024. He was born on October 31, 1928, in Akron, Ohio but grew up in Mannington, WV.
John is preceded in Heaven by his wife of 53 years, Lillian (Moore) Tapp, his daughter, Carolyn Jeanne Hall, grandchildren, Anthony L. Hall and George Walter Daniels, his parents, Charles and Pearl Tapp, and his siblings, Helen Rush, Lena McMurray, Barbara Moore, Charles F. Tapp, Jr., Alfred Tapp, and Albert Tapp.
John’s infectious personality will be severely missed by his surviving family, children: Johnny (Olga) Tapp, Cheryl Krumm, Penny (Jeff) Daniels; grandchildren: Tom Hall, Justin (Amanda) Tapp, Stanford Tapp, Jennifer (Ben) Fowler, Sarah (Peter) Allan, Jeffrey (Emily) Daniels, Jr., Eric (Julia) Daniels; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Betty (Peggy) Cain and Robert F. Tapp; brother-in-law, Roger (Penny) Moore and several nieces and nephews.
John served his country as an Army veteran serving in the Occupational Forces in Korea from 1947 to 1949. He was employed as a Supervisor in the Inspection Department at Timken Steel from 1952 to 1983 where he had fond memories of his role and spoke highly of his job until his last days.
If you had the pleasure of knowing John, you can likely find yourself on video somewhere. He was best known for taking videos of every single event of his family’s (and friends’) lives. You could always count on him for a witty “John Tapp original/joke" or clever comebacks. He liked telling people that his birthday was on Halloween and enjoyed showing off his 1928 silver dollar belt buckle. He liked to wear festive outfits and socks and had a lot of lapel pins for the holidays.
He loved wood working, acquiring new knowledge, and remaining incredibly organized from his days in the Army.
He was a giver and would help out his family any way that he could if they needed it. He loved traveling with his family and then later in his motor home with his wife, Lillian and carried on the tradition with his grandchildren. He was ornery and loved to talk. He knew no stranger! He was silly and a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics. You could guarantee to spend 5 times the amount of time you intended when you were with him due to the flowing conversation.
The family would like to thank the employees of Danbury, Massillon for taking care of John and going the extra mile to make him happy.
Thank you to Bethany Therapy dept. for working so hard to get him back on his feet after his surgery.
Thank you to the employees of Heritage Villas for taking care of him and being very patient with him.
