John Paul Smith Jr.

John P. Smith Jr, age 68, of Massillon, Ohio passed away unexpectedly Wednesday May 31st, 2023.

John was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on September 3rd, 1954, but resided in Massillon for most of his life. As a younger man he served in the Army National Guard. John worked as a custodian in Massillon City Schools for 25 years prior to his retirement.

John had a life long passion for motorcycles, reading, movies, music, and good food. Often times you could find him in a comfortable chair with his nose in a book. John was a big believer in demonstrating kindness to everyone and enjoyed conversation and a cup of coffee any day of the week. John will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, humor, and the way he fiercely cared for those closest to him.

He is survived by his daughter Lyndsey Smith of Massillon. His two sisters; Irene (Robert) Skaggs of Massillon, and Marsha (Dennis) Rowley of West Virginia. John was preceded in death by his father John Paul Smith Sr; his mother Priscilla Smith; and his brother Michael (Rose) Smith.

A Celebration of John's life will be held from 5-7p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Outdoor Pavillion of the Sons of Herman - 1994 Deermont Avenue NW, Massillon, OH 44647.  In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Akron Children's Hospital, a charity John supported for the past 30 years.
