John O. Greegor, age 84 of Jackson Township, died on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Rose Lane Health Care Center. He was born on May 20, 1925 in Mineral City, Ohio and was the son of the late Sam and Vesta (Osborne) Greegor. John was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Marines in the 4th Division in Iwo Jima. He was employed by and retired from LTV Steel. He was a member of St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church and sang with the choir for 30 years. He loved music and was with the Canton Symphony Chorus for 15 years and prior to that sang with the Canton Civic Opera. He was a member of the Western Square Dance Clubs and danced for 20 years. John was a member of the V.F.W. He was a kind and loving person who loved his family and friends. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Mae (Mason) Greegor and his sister Marcella Schie. He is survived by his wife, Anna M. (Zwick) Greegor, his children, Lynn (Philip) Jones of Perry Township, Lu Ann (Joseph) Kerr of Bolivar, Ohio and Lea (Wayne) Petrusek of Perry Township, his grandchildren, Beth Eubanks, Brett and Brandon Kerr, Jen Harrison, Shawn Petrusek and Christina Collier, great grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Kagen, Karlie, Madison and Natalie and his sister Shirley Parish. A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Thursday, December 3rd at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with military honors. The family would to give special thanks to Aultman Hospice and all of their staff and the staff at Rose Lane Nursing Home for all of the special care and love that they gave and to the Veteran’s Administration, especially Dr. Drum.
