John Louis Zimmerman

September 5, 1938 — August 17, 2013

John L. Zimmerman, age 74 passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013. He was born in Canton on September 5, 1938 to the late Edwin and Anne (Lazlow) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Canton Central Catholic. He married Linda K. Steiner and they shared 48 wonderful years together until her passing on May 19, 2013. John served his country in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked as a machinist for 25 years at Canton Castings and at Quality Control at Maytag until his retirement. John enjoyed painting landscapes, spending time with his grandchildren and was an avid fan of the Massillon Tigers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He will be remembered for his kind and giving spirit and his ability to help at risk youths. John is survived by his children Charles Zimmerman, Christopher (Amy) Zimmerman and Catherine McLeod; his grandchildren Skyler, Lillian, Macey, Cameron, and Jaedyn; his sister Patricia Kramer and his brother David Zimmerman. In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his sister Barbara Wagner; his brothers Bruce Zimmerman, Anthony Zimmerman, and Allen Zimmerman. A Memorial Service will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 7:30 P.M. Father Edward Gretchko, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
