John L. Walter

John L. Walter, 85, of Massillon passed away on September 2, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center, Canton. He was born in Monclova on January 17, 1929 to the late Charles L. and Melissa (Nicodemus) Walter. John was a retired Free Methodist minister. He had served over a dozen churches in his fifty plus years of ministry. He attended Spring Arbor Junior College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. John was currently attending the Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school. He was known to his friends as "Farmer". He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Linda (Freeman) Walter; his four sons, David (Amy) Walter of Massillon, Charles Walter of Galion, Paul (Cheryl) Walter of Galion and James (Linda )Walter of Canisteo, NY; Step children, Lloyd (Katherine) Hinson of Canton and Rebecca Hinson of Canton; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Walter of Westminster, CO. He was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Margaret (Dunn) Walter; three sisters, Betty Jane Walter, Alice Walter and Anna Mary Hahn. Friends and family may call at the Paquelet Funeral Home, Massillon on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at Massillon Wesleyan Methodist Church, 844 Green Ave SW, Massillon, OH on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the John and Margaret Walter Memorial Camp Scholarship Fund, care of Wesley Rohrer, PO Box 24767, Columbus, OH 43224.
