John E. King, 86, of Massillon, passed away on February 17, 2025. He was born on April 22, 1938 to the late John D. and Viola M. {Haggerty} King.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son Erik Jason King and his brother Jim King.
John is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; children Greg King, Lisa (Ryan) Simmons and Marlo (Jeff) Chovan; daughter-in-law Lisa King; grandchildren Alex, Cory, Adam, Elliot, Sarah, Myles, Isabelle and Millicent; great-grandson Carter; sister-in-law Elaine King; brother- and sister-in-law Danny & Ilene Sisler; several nieces and nephews.
John King was the coolest guy you could ever meet. He was effortlessly funny, highly intelligent, and an ingenious problem solver. If Dad didn't have it...he made it. He was kind, gentle-hearted, and loved life and all it had to offer.
He was a proud veteran of the Ohio National Guard, serving for 8 years, which included during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He worked for Ohio Edison and excelled to the highest level. He started out as a lineman and worked up to a supervisor and teacher. He was admired and sought after for his expertise and creative thinking.
Not only was he a sports fan of the Massillon Tigers, Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers, he loved taking care of his garden (with best friend "Duchess" in tow), grilling out, bowling, playing cards, DIY jobs, but mostly playing basketball with his kids. He always sat at the head of the table as we enjoyed his stories and jokes.
He was a sincere listener, reliable friend and mentor to many. He was honest, positive and never gave up on anything or anyone...and so much more! My dad was all about family. He was in love with his wife Sandy for over 63 years. His kids were his pride and joy, and the grandkids adored him.
That was my Husband, our Dad, our Grandpa, our Uncle...your Friend. Loving you forever, John.
