John Elefterin

March 11, 1920 — April 8, 2006

Lt. Col. John Elefterin, USAF, retired, age 86, passed away in the company of his family on April 8, 2006. He was bom on March 11, 1920, in Beaver Falls, PA. He attended Ohio University, the United States Air Force Officer Candidate School and the United States Air Force Command and Staff School. He was proud to have served his country, home and abroad, with the United States Air Force for 26 years. He was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service. After retirement from the military, he settled with his family in Massillon where he worked for the MCA Sign Company. His greatest love was spending time with his family; he dearly loved his grandchildren. He also loved to play golf with family and friends. In addition to his mother, Maria Hametis, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Elefterin and brothers Gus (Babe), Edward (Ted), and Constantine Elefterin... He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Katharine (Liossis), son Dr. Gregg Elefterin, daughter-in-law Kristine Elefterin (Van Horn), grandchildren, Michael Elefterin, Ari Elefterin, Zoe Elefterin and Dr. Adam Downs (Phoenix, AZ), sisters Anita Kappiris (Hollywood, FL), Helen Clark (Dunedin, FL), nephews Stan Kappiris (Hollywood, FL), Jim Clark, JD (Tampa, FL), Mark Clark (Palm Harbor, FL), and John Clark (Largo, FL), nieces Helen Marinkovic (Center Township, PA), Melanie Menta (Aliquippa, PA), Mary Flagman (Rochester, PA), Tinamarie Merritt (Monaca, PA) and Marilyn Neyland (Tampa, FL). Calling hours will held on Wednesday 4/12/06 from 6-8 pm at the Paquelet Funeral Home. The funeral will be held on Thursday 4/13/06 at 1:30 pm at Paquelet Funeral Home, Reverend Constantine Valantasis officiating. Internment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Massillon, with a military graveside ceremony. Donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity in lieu of flowers.
