John Define, Jr,. age 86 of Navarre, Ohio, died on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Altercare of Navarre. He was born on April 3, 1923 in Navarre, Ohio and was the son of the late John B. and Mary B. (Holman) Define, Sr. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant. He graduated from Gregg College of Shorthand in Chicago, IL. He worked most of his life as a court stenographer for the Canton Common Pleas Court. He later worked for the Stark County Engineers. John was an accomplished piano player and played with his brother, Vincent Define in a group known as Vinnie and his Swingsters in the 1940’s. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifelong member of St. Clements Catholic Church in Navarre. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary F. Define in July of this year, his brothers, William Define and Vincent Define and his sisters, Isabell Piper, Orletta Pyle and Lucille Bechtel. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Barb Define of Navarre, his grandchildren, Stacey (Chris) Parratt of Florida and John K. Define of Canton, his great grandchildren, Sarah and Isabelle Parratt, both of Florida. Also surviving is his brother Robert Define of Navarre and his sisters, Donna Agler of Navarre and Mary Lou (Jim) McCreary of Beach City. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 28, 2009 at St. Clements Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M. with Fr. Edward Beneleit officiating. Burial will follow at East Union Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to either St. Clements Catholic Church or Fohl United Methodist Church in Navarre.
