John D. Hughes

John D. (Donald) Hughes 89 of Massillon passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013. John was born on December 13, 1923 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Courtland and Myrtle (Hancock) Hughes. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy having served during WWII. He returned from the service and married the love of his life, Joyce E. Northrop on Feb. 6 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before her death in Feb. 26, 1995. To this union they had two daughters, Cheryl and Carol. John retired from T.V. Maintenance in 1987. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Massillon Senior Center, American Legion and did volunteer work at the former Doctor's Hospital and then at Affinity Medical Center in Massillon. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his daughters, son-in-law, David, grandson, Tim and his wife Jodie and their daughter Cassie of Massillon; brothers, Ed of Virginia, Harry of Canton and Richard of Massillon; sisters, Mary Jane and Nancy of Columbus. He is now reuniting with his parents and wife, two brothers, Courtland, Fred, son-in-law, Richard. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon with Rev. Larry Lalama officiating. Friends may call Tuesday from 11 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
