John 'Bob' Altland

January 5, 1918 — April 11, 2006

John Robert Bob Altland, age 88 of Massillon, passed away Tuesday evening at the Massillon Community Hospital. He was born in Massillon on January 5, 1918 to the late Orton & Stella (Yast) Altland. Bob graduated from Washington High School in 1936. He then went on to work for Union Drawn Steel. Bob proudly served our country in the Army Air Force in the 55th Fighter Group 338 Fighter Squadron. John served in England & Germany. He later married the love of his life, Rosemary Blough on April 10, 1948. Rosemary & Robert celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Monday. Bob retired from Union Drawn Steel after 44yrs. of loyal service. After retiring Bob had the time for gardening, playing cards, bowling, golfing & enjoying most other sports. He & Rosemary enjoyed traveling the world. He also loved to spend time with his family. He was a member of AARP 3336, the Northwest Senior Center in Canal Fulton & St. Clements Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Orton & Stella, his 2 brothers, Eugene & William, one sister, Dorothy Yost. Survivors Wife Rosemary Altland of Massillon 2 Son James Altland of King of Prussia, PA Donald & Susie Altland of Groesbeck, Texas Daughter Barbara Messenger-Gray & Tim Gray of Grants Lick, KY Brother Loren Altland of Massillon 4 Grandchildren Kelley& John Altland Amber & William Messenger 4 Step-Grandchildren Tim Brock, Cherita Lueck, Pam & Ian Gray 2 Step-Great Grandchilren Jason & Kaley Brock There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 AM at St. Clements Catholic Church. Friends may call on Sunday from 6-8 PM at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.
