John George Adorjan

John George Adorjan was born March 10, 1944 in Massillon, Ohio to the late John Michael and Helen Margaret (Cornell) Adorjan. He died in the loving hands of his wife of 51 years, Mary Margaret (Rohr). He is also survived by his son and two daughters and seven grandchildren. He was proud of his Hungarian heritage, stressing it and the importance of education to his children and grandchildren.

 John was a proud “Brother’s Boy” 1962 graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School which prepared him to attended on full academic scholarships and graduate from Walsh College BA Magna Cum Laude and the University of Notre Dame MA Cum Laude. He retired after 36 years from American Electric Power serving in supervisory and administrative positions. He proudly implemented the flying of the US Flag at all Ohio Power Co. office and service centers. The policy was later adopted by American Electric Power for its facilities in eleven states.

 John was an avid Notre Dame fan and President of the Canton Notre Dame Alumni Club. He enjoyed writing and contributed to trade and hobby periodicals. He enjoyed hunting and shooting with his beloved late Uncle Karl Spinden. John was the 1962 US Army Reserve Hastings Memorial Rifle Champion, a Life Time Member of the National Rifle Association and a Certified NRA Rifle Instructor, Ohio Hunter Safety Instructor, Coach of the Notre Dame Army ROTC Rifle Team (God, Country, Notre Dame), recipient of the WHBC 1970 Sportsman of the Year Award, and member of the fourth place NRA 1972 National High Power Championship Ohio Rifle & Pistol State High Power Rifle Team. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Grateful for his Walsh College education, he participated in several Walsh Annual Fund Campaigns and served on the Walsh Alumni Board.

 Calling hours will be held at Paquelet Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 from 9:30 am – 10:30 am with a mass held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 11 am. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. To share a message with John’s family please sign the online guest book.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Massillon Public Library.
