Joe Jones Jr., age 83 of Massillon passed away June 16, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born June 3, 1930 in Bowden, GA to the late Joe & Douglas (Mathis) Jones. He lived most of his life in Massillon and graduated from Washington High School in 1950 where he played football with the Massillon Tigers. For over 50 years he was a mechanic for the Pontiac Garage in Massillon (Hicks, Pace and Holland dealerships). He loved riding his horse 'Faras'. Memorable were the times he spent with his boat waterskiing on Portage Lakes. Not only a mechanic but a lover of antique cars, he showed his collection at many shows. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Joe Jones III (1998), (Cynthia Jones of Conyers, GA). Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Edna (Gardin) Jones; and they have four children: Donna (David) Bodiford, Linda Barnett, Van Jones and Jeffery (Lynette) Jones. They have fifteen grandchildren, Randall Clark, Jr., Nicole O'Reilly, Monet Robinson, Brandi Lewis, Valarie Jones, Lamar Green, Van Jones, Jr., Britney Barnett-Smith, Alex Bodiford, Jeffery Jones, Jr., Lauren Bodiford, Brooke Jones, Chloe Jones, Miles Jones, Sterling Jones; eighteen great grandchildren, Shalyn Taylor, London Jefferson, Nathaniel Lewis, Jr., Randall Clark, III, Leiah Lewis, Alyssa Clark, Noah Lewis, Joci Robinson, Nicholas Robinson, Cedella O'Reilly, Alyssa O'Reilly, Alexandria Jones, Danyiella Jones, Bree Lewis, Aamir Jones, Brayden Barnett, Caneron Bodiford, Nolan Lewis. He is survived by two siblings, Lucille (Henry) Joiner and Charles Jones; special friends, Mamie Bodiford and Duane Knight. There is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends and relatives. A Homegoing Service will be 10:30 Saturday at St. James AME Church in Massillon, Rev. Rosalyne Mitchell-Martin will officiate. Burial will be at Massillon Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 PM at St. James AME Church and Saturday from 9:30 until the service at the church.
