Joanne "Josie" Sara Eckstein

January 14, 1933 — April 2, 2024

Joanne “Josie” Sara Eckstein, 91, of Massillon, passed away on April 2, 2024 at Heritage Villas, North Canton, Ohio.

She was born on January 14, 1933, to the late John and Lucille (neé Luckner) Eckstein of Massillon. Joanne was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother who always had a kind word and smile for all who entered her rich life.

After graduating from Washington High School in 1951, Joanne’s first job was at Ohio Edison. Soon, she moved to Eaton Manufacturing, where she diligently served in the human resources department. By the time of her retirement, Joanne had accumulated 40 years of dedicated service at Eaton.

A die-hard Massillon fan, Josie was a #1 Tiger booster! She loved going to the games, cheering on the team, and anything to do with Massillon football. Josie was very artistic and loved arts and crafts. No one could knit any better–or faster–than Joanne! She also loved sewing, ceramics, and refinishing antiques. All her projects were filled with love. Joanne’s friends and family will forever treasure the ceramic holiday gifts, gorgeous afghan blankets, knitted scarves, and knitted hats Joanne made for them. Joanne also enriched the lives and brought happiness to several 4-legged friends throughout her lifetime.

“Granny Jo” had a heart of gold and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. She is survived and deeply loved by her children, daughter Kristen (Mark) Moll and son Mitchell (Krissy) Booth, and six grandchildren Audrey, Avery and Alex Moll, Zachery and Sydney Booth and Kaitlyn Hawkins, and her twin sister Janice Eckstein Padden, and extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John Eckstein and James Eckstein.

A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, June 7th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Washington High School Alumni Association at One Paul Brown Drive Southeast Massillon, Ohio 44646
