Joanne "Jody" Smith

Joanne “Jody” Smith, 84, of Jackson Township passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2018. She was born on June 10, 1934 in Sharon, Pennsylvania. Jody graduated from Poland Seminary High School and then attended Youngstown State University. She married the love of her life, Vernon Smith, on May 1, 1954 and they shared 64 wonderful years together. Jody worked as a travel agent at the Massillon AAA and Mark 30 Travel before owning and operating her own agency, the Travel Trunk for 11 years. Her passion for travel led her to spend 6 months a year in Florida for 21 years. In her spare time, Jody loved to read, play bingo and cards, and other various games. She also enjoyed boating and camping. Jody also had a strong Christian faith and taught Sunday school at Austintown Community Church and various other churches she attended. Jody was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Robert Tatman. She will be deeply missed by her husband Vernon; daughters Kim (Mike) Kuhns and Lori (Larry) Case; grandchildren Corey (Marla) Kuhns, Katie (Sean) Clark, Beth (Steve) Barney, Kyle (Ursula) Welch, Matt (Tara) Welch and Trisha Barnett; 6 great-grandchildren; and siblings Gayle (Bob) Breeding, Mike Tatman and Carole (Pete) Dolata. A celebration of Jody’s life will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, August 16, 2018, in the Paquelet Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Hull. The family will receive friends from 10am until the time of service on Thursday, also in the funeral home.
