Joanne G. Mitzel

Joanne G. Mitzel, age 79 of Massillon passed away Thursday June 7, 2012 at her residence. Joanne was born August 1, 1932 in New London, CT. to the late Frank & Grace Sigurdsen and moved to Stark County in 1948. She graduated from Lehman High School and the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing. As a Registered Nurse, she was employed by Aultman Hospital, Mercy Medical Center and Rose Lane Nursing Home. She was a proud member of Epworth United Methodist Church. As a devoted Mother and Grandmother her family was foremost in her thoughts. Time spent at the ocean, swimming, reading and gardening were some of her happiest times. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Melvin Sigurdsen. Joanne is survived by her husband Raymond with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. They have five children and spouses: Kathy (Charles) Dickens, Thomas Mitzel, Cynthia Moyer, Robert (Natalie) Mitzel and Jeannette (Stephan) Birkich. There are six grandchildren: Ashley, Amy, Anthony, Megan, Emmalie & Nathan and great granddaughter, Paige. Joanne has a surviving sister and two brothers: Barbara Beitzel, Kenneth & Jeffrey Sigurdsen. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 PM Tuesday at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon, Rev.
